Over the past few years, several schools for underprivileged children have been established by both government and non-government organisations. As most of these organisations ensure primary and secondary education only, majority of these poverty-stricken students are unable to continue further education in universities and colleges. Does that mean that they will never pursue their dreams? This is one of the major crisis in the current context of Bangladesh.
The issue was soon recognised by a few socially aware high school goers, studying in several elite schools of Dhaka. It is a great pride for the students of Scholastica as our very own Nahian Chowdhury, along with her friends Jubayer Ibn Hamid and Shafkat Wahid, now twelfth graders from Mirpur campus, took the initiative of establishing Illuminar to meet the social cause.
Illuminar is a youth organization which aims to provide free vocational education and skill-based training to the underprivileged children of Bangladesh. Since its inception on 26th of September, 2017, the organisation has played a vital role in providing several opportunities to these youngsters so that they can fulfil their dreams and attain success.
Besides the plan to reduce the number of dropouts from high school, Illuminar also plans to encourage schools to introduce extra-curricular activities which is extremely beneficial for children to develop skills. They believe that promoting real-life application of knowledge by providing vocational training to the students can help them to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations and cope with the world outside, instead of just sticking to the academics. Furthermore, the institution also target the deprived students to develop their English speaking and writing skills, improve their knowledge on the IT and programming sector of Bangladesh and also provide the teenagers with the guidance needed for university admission.
Recently, Illuminar has collaborated with "Jaago" to lend help to more needy students. In future, this establishment plans to hold events to bring massive nationwide attention to these escalating crisis of Bangladesh.
