I'm sure we all wonder what happens to a scholastician after they graduate. Are they teleported off into a brand new far off world? Do they party all day and all night? Do they curl up in a ball and cry themselves to sleep every night? Okay maybe not all of us think that but hey these all could be real possibilities for all we know. Fortunately for us, we have with us today a scholastica alumni who graduated in 2016. Ladies, Gentlemen and everyone in between, I give you 21 year old NSU student, Abrar Maswood Haider.
Albab: So, how’s life been since graduating from Scholastica?
AMH: It’s been tough landing on my feet. The admission process was long and strenuous. Then there was the dilemma of choosing a major! I jumped from one major to another until I found the one that suited me best, Biochemistry & Biotechnology.
Albab: Sounds hectic, but now that you are admitted in a university, what is that pressure like?
AMH: It is a major downgrade to the pressure I withstood whilst preparing for my A levels. The courses are easier than I expected and I’m left with a lot of free time to do as I please. What I learned during A levels strengthened the foundation for what I’m learning at university.
Albab: Did you ever consider taking a gap year to straighten things out?
AMH: No. The objective of a gap year is to reassess your life, build a proper skill set and most importantly take a break from the monotony of education. At the time, I had already spent 6 months in the admission process & I just wanted to start the next phase of my life. To those considering taking a year gap, by all means go ahead but remember not to side-track and lose focus on your field of interest.
Albab: What do you miss most about Scholastica?
AMH: The Synergy. Everyone was willing to help each other out, whether it was studying, ECAs or even life in general. Those interactions helped me grow tremendously as a person. It’s been difficult no longer having that constant support.
Albab: What advice would you give your past self?
AMH: Procrastinate less and study more, trust me you’ll have plenty of free time going forward.
